JOB TITLE – Cooking teacher

HOURS OF WORK

12 consecutive Saturday’s.

Cooking days – start time around 9/10am, finish time around 4/5pm – 7-8 hours per teaching day.

Plus 5 hours student calls each week at a convenient time for the teacher and students.

Commencing 4th September 2021. The teacher must be able to attend each session to give consistency for the students. If this first term goes well we would want to hire the teacher for our future terms and, potentially, other classes/courses. As the school is growing there is the option for the right teacher to be involved in the development of future courses and the school in a wider context.

LOCATION 

Haringey Sixth Form College, White Hart Lane, Tottenham, London, N17 8HR.

PAY

£15-£20 per hour dependent on experience.

The main function of this role is to deliver the Vegan Chef Diploma course. This course teaches passionate homecooks to prepare them to take their first step into a professional kitchen. The course content has been developed over the last 3 years (this includes theory and recipes). The teacher will be supported by two assistants. The assistants will set up the class / clear down and they will be responsible for weighing out ingredients. The teacher will receive a full teachers hand book before the course plus training.

Key areas of responsibility 

Teaching students recipes through demonstrating
Teaching students theory through delivering information
Guiding and supporting students through the course
Talking to students on a half hour phone call each week
Assisting students with plating
Interacting with social media when in the class (one of the assistants is in charge of social media)
Feeding back (on student experience) to the Director

Person specification

  • Confident and knowledgeable chef
  • 2+ years of experience working as a chef
  • Experience of teaching to a high standard
  • Ability to follow a class plan and recipes
  • Ability to manage a class of 10 students
  • Knowledge of vegan cuisine
