Position Summary
Status: Paid depending on need, Part-Time

Hours: 5+ hours/week

Location: Home Office, Africa or Resident in an African Country

Reports to: Role Lead

Potential Roles and Responsibilities
Our aim for an internship at AAA is to enable individuals to gain experience working in animal advocacy in Africa while also assisting AAA’s operations. There is an opportunity to transition this internship to a full-time role at AAA. We are looking for generalists to help with a variety of the following tasks but are open to tailoring the role to individual skills and talents.

Research – to assist with decision-relevant research and inform our organisational strategy in Africa
Operations – to assist with implementing a capacity-building pilot intervention in Africa
Communications – to promote our work and build relationships with animal advocates in Africa

How you will make a difference

We are looking for generalist interns with around 5-15 hours per week dedicated to AAA, depending on the type of role and tasks (e.g. research would likely require more hours). We’re also particularly interested in advocates who can help us implement our pilot program in Africa.

Requirements
From Africa (whether or not currently living in Africa)
Able to dedicate at least 5 hours per week
Interest in doing effective work
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Adaptable and fast learner

Preferred
A passion for improving animal welfare and food systems in Africa
Familiarity with Effective Altruism

Details

Remote or in our office in Cape Town
3 to 6 months’ duration, with an immediate start date
We are offering to pay interns a stipend depending on need

Hiring Process

Initial form and CV – 10 minutes – Deadline 28th May

Test Task – 1-2 hours – By the latest 4th June for successful applicants (rolling)

Interviews – 45 Minutes – 4th – 11th June for successful applicants

About Animal Advocacy Africa

Animal Advocacy Africa (AAA) aims to develop a collaborative and effective animal advocacy movement in Africa by assisting and empowering other animal advocacy organisations and advocates to be as effective as possible in their advocacy efforts.

We recently completed a 6-month research phase surveying African animal advocacy organisations and individual advocates in order to inform our first 6-month pilot program.
