About Animal Advocacy Africa

Animal Advocacy Africa (AAA) is a capacity-building program that aims to support advocates and organisations to develop and grow the animal advocacy movement in Africa.

How you will make a difference

We are looking for a generalist Program Manager to assist in the implementation of our pilot program. This will consist of helping animal advocacy organisations identify and apply for funding, and providing recommendations and resources to develop their organisational capacities.

The Program Manager will be involved in strategic decision-making, implementation of the program, and effective communication with local stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Auditing animal welfare organisations to assess the impact of our pilot program on their work and effectiveness
Organising programs and activities during our pilot, and managing their progress to ensure we achieve our goals
Producing accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle
Assessing program risks and managing problems that arise
Interacting with stakeholders about the services we provide and attending relevant events such as conferences

Requirements

Good understanding of the local context, such as social and cultural nuances, that affect animal welfare in Africa
Ability to simplify complicated information into digestible material
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
Excellent teamwork skills, including developing shared plans, coordinating communications, and managing dynamics among partners
Ability to show initiative and proactivity, have a sense of urgency and drive
Comfortable solving problems and making decisions independently using research, evidence and reasoning
Comfortable with a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
Excellent networking and interpersonal skills

Preferred

Familiarity with animal agriculture practices and animal welfare in Africa
Familiarity with Effective Altruism
Previous experience in a similar role
A strong network and influence in Africa
Good understanding of how to interact with regional authorities and intergovernmental agencies

Details

Salary range: Depending on experience, qualifications and local living costs.

Duration: Three months contract for our pilot program. However, there is potential for longer, full-time work down the road or in other related projects.
