Head Plant based chef to run and manage a 30 seater cafe, open plan kitchen with an assistant chef and prep cook/KP.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for creating and eating amazing plant based food, with a keen interest in health and wellness. A proactive approach to being eco-friendly and doing as much as we can for the environment. Someone who loves to inspire others through what they do and enjoys talking about the benefits of eating a plant based diet. A chance to be part of a brand new exciting venture working alongside the owner/manager in collaboration to launch the Isle of Mans first plant based café. Helping to design and develop a fully costed, vibrant & inspiring food menu that aims to show case how beautiful, tasty and nutritious whole, plant based food and drinks can be. Featuring breakfast, brunch, lunch and treats. Further plans to incorporate a pre-order take away service once established if viable. To set up the kitchen ready for opening with equipment and efficient workflow. Establish contact with suppliers and order stock, put in place relevant food hygiene, Health & safety and fire safety procedures / best practices and methods for recording. To lead a small kitchen team in daily tasks, prepare and plate food. Ensuring the kitchen cleanliness is to a high standard and any maintenance issues reported, training and mentoring your team to follow your lead. Help grow and utilise the roof terrace, herb and flower garden. To collaborate with the manager / owner in brain storming, experimenting and creating new dishes featuring local seasonal produce and superfood ingredients. Collaborating on menus for wellness events / monthly themed plant based food events to be held in the evenings – or on days the café is closed and being hired out for wellness classes including mindfulness & face yoga. The idea is to create a real community hub.

Catering Background:

Experience running a café / restaurant kitchen and managing a small team. To be living a vegan / plant based lifestyle with experience of making a range of plant based dishes & drinks. Knowledge of food nutrition and wellness. Experience in making vegan cheeze, nut mylks, nice-creams, dehydrating fruit and vegetables, sprouting seeds, fermenting & pickling would be amazing but not essential. Ability to cost effectively and achieve a profit. Food safety qualification.


We realise it may be a big move for the right candidate, so we’re happy to offer temporary accommodation with a small contribution to cover water and electricity in a house share initially whilst you find your feet and your own place. The Isle of Man government also offer assistance for people relocating to the island to work.

Shift Pattern:

A rota will be designed alongside the lead chef to ensure time is allocated to managing all aspects of running this small café kitchen.  Straight shifts approx. 9am -5.30pm including prep, service and clean down. Initially we are looking to open 5 days with a future goal of opening 6 with a full team of staff. We would also like to open for one off events in the evenings spaced throughout the year that could include themed menus, guest speaker nights and private functions etc. There is also huge potential to tap into the pre-order takeaway service for surrounding businesses, outside / event catering and potential a food van in the future.

Size of the Team:

Brand new team being recruited working alongside owner manager. Potentially 3 in the kitchen including Lead chef, assistant chef and a KP/prep assistant. 1 Full time front of house manager and potentially a full time assistant with 2-3 part time staff.


Located just off the Marina in Douglas, the Isle of Man’s capital. You are a stone’s throw from East quay where cafes, restaurants and pubs over look the yachts in the harbour. The Isle of Man Steam train station is situated next to Tesco’s just behind VIBE. The town centre is 5 minutes walk away with the main bus terminal 2 minutes away and the Steam Packet ferry terminal to Liverpool & Heysham 5 minutes away. Douglas has a great public transport system operating bus services all over the island. The airport is 20 minutes away in Castle town and is only a 55 minute flight to Gatwick, 20 minutes to Liverpool and 45 minutes to Manchester. Just a short drive out of town you can be on the famous TT motorbike course travelling over the highest mountains on the island with views over to Scotland and Ireland or a 20 minute drive in the opposite direction and be walking along the sandy beach in Peel or Port Erin. Surrounded by beautiful scenery there are plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed here or if you prefer just a slower pace of life then the Isle of Man is perfect for that too!

Part of the Tartan Group Ltd, a family business that have been running restaurants on the Isle of Man since 2006. Their newest addition to the group will be VIBE, (Vibrant . Inspiring . Beautiful . Eating ) A brand new, plant based café opening soon bringing the first 'all vegan cafe' to the island, making VIBE a highly anticipated and exciting new venture.

VIBE was created after a family member successfully battled breast cancer and discovered the health and wellness benefits of going plantbased. The dream is to inspire as many people as possible to see plant based food differently and to break the stereotypical mould that this food is boring and unsatisfying. To eat well you do not have to compromise on taste, satisfaction and health.

Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and snacks. Serving a variety of drinks including mocktails, herbal teas, fresh juices, smoothies, kombucha, infused waters, superfood hot drinks etc.

Café Vibe & company culture:
A beautifully designed café intended to create a little urban oasis where customers can forget their problems and indulge in some re-energising, re-fuelling & uplifting 'time-out'. A space for like minded people to come together and feel comfortable, a space for socialising and not feel like the odd ones out. We always want to create the full experience in our venues. First impressions are so important and so is the environment in which we operate. Surrounded by natural wood, hanging rattan lampshades and living plants the room will be filled with positive energy. A collection of plant based, vegan lifestyle books, recipe books and magazines are available for customers to read during their visit. Chilled vibes will be playing in the background and the smell of calming essential oils in the aroma diffuser will be subtly wafting through the air. The toilet walls are full of positive, motivational quotes because who doesn’t need a little encouragement and support in these crazy times. The small kitchen is open plan looking out over the café. There is a separate prep kitchen and roof terrace where we grow herbs, salad and edible flowers. We use as much local, fresh organic produce from the farmers markets and supplement stock from Robinsons / Suma.
