Poor nutrition is the major contributor to the biggest health crisis of our time – the crisis of non-communicable diseases. Additionally, the current food system also fuels the future health crisis of climate change and the emerging crisis of (zoonotic) pandemics.
The implementation of dietary approaches at the core of healthcare and the creation of healthy whole food and plant-based food environments are urgently needed to mitigate or at best overcome these global health crises and alleviate the suffering of millions of people worldwide.
The Physicians Association for Nutrition (PAN) educates and empowers health professionals – particularly medical students and doctors – to use nutrition’s preventive and therapeutic power and shape healthy food environments.
PAN is an international, not-for-profit organization based in Munich, Germany, founded in 2018 and with established branches in countries across Europe and around the world, including the USA, Israel and South Africa.
We recognize the preventive and therapeutic potential that lies within whole food, plant-based nutrition when it comes to addressing the world’s leading causes of death and healthy life years lost.
PAN strives to:
-make nutritional education a key part of medical school and the training of all health professions
-empower health professionals and students by providing education and clinical tools
-create effective nutrition programs and resources to optimally support patients and the broader public
-change hospital menus to include more nutritionally sound options
-build a global network of health professionals, scientists, and students
-create influential medical lobbies in countries with established PAN branches to advance systemic changes and shape healthy food environments
We deliver evidence-based nutrition and health information, reevaluating our content regularly following the newest available and most thoroughly researched findings while recognizing and addressing the opportunities and limitations of particular research results and established scientific methods. We appreciate, welcome, and foster scientific exchange and discussion.
