The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) seeks a remote, full- or part-time communications intern each term (fall, winter, spring, and summer). This opportunity is open to undergraduate or graduate students majoring in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field—or individuals with equivalent experience—seeking to develop their communication skills in a nonprofit setting.

The communications intern will report to AWI’s digital engagement manager and public relations manager and assist with the development, implementation, and analysis of creative concepts and communication strategies. Tasks may include creating social media posts and videos, media monitoring, media database updating, etc. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator who is organized and has a genuine interest in animal welfare. Although not required, SEO familiarity and a demonstrated interest in social media management, or skill in video production is preferred.

Students accepted for summer, fall, and spring internships are encouraged to apply for for AWI’s Paid Internship Program. Interns may also arrange to receive course credit.
