Summary

F.E.P.’s full-time Vegan Program Coordinator (VPC) is a core member of the team and is responsible for the management and upkeep of F.E.P.’s vegan food websites and veganism resources. This includes the development, coordination and production of culturally-specific recipe booklets in multiple languages, the creation of campaign-aligned social media and YouTube recipe content, and the updating and maintenance of existing resources. The VPC is expected to assist with the online promotion of F.E.P.’s veganism resources as well as with occasional team projects and events.

The ideal candidate will be a creative individual who is passionate about animal rights, veganism, and vegan foods as well as food justice and the issues that F.E.P. focuses on. The position requires the individual to be an extremely organized project manager, efficient, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple tasks at once. The position reports to F.E.P.’s Associate Director and works closely with other programs staff as well as the web and print designer. The work of the VPC can be done remotely.

Responsibilities & Duties

Vegan Food Web Content

  • Create and implement a plan to keep vegan food program content updated and publish onto the F.E.P. websites and affiliated vegan food sites, including coordinating translations and posting new recipes, images, and videos on the websites (includes veganmexicanfood.com, veganfilipinofood.com, veganlaofood.com, and foodispower.org—recipes, meal ideas, eating on a budget, vegan food, and others).
  • Develop content for and manage the production of the recipe booklets that are companions to our websites, including finding designers and coordinating booklet printing and translations.
  • Establish a method to get recipe contributors to create cooking demos on their recipes.

Veganism Program Communications

  • Promote F.E.P.’s vegan resources and recipes by commenting on other blogs, articles, and recipes and collaborating with communications staff for social posts.
  • Implement ways to insert our veganism work into trending news and news related to our work in the media.
  • Coordinate the production of creative print and online collateral—including high-impact ads, billboards, and clever web videos; shareable social media content, etc.—to promote our vegan campaigns.
  • Identify and select images for websites and printed materials pertaining to the vegan food websites/pages.
  • Create and edit short videos to promote our websites to non-vegan circles via digital ads—Google ads, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and social media ads.
  • Solicit and coordinate the promotion of F.E.P. content by other organizations and content creators through video ads, digital ads, or paid business partnerships.
  • Establish and implement F.E.P.’s planned taqueria restaurant outreach project

In-person Veganism Outreach/Educational Events

The below in-person duties may be enacted pending considerations around COVID safety:

  • Organize and attend in-person outreach events (cooking demos) with student groups, community groups, faith-based organizations, and other members of the general public from conception to completion, focused on teaching vegan recipes and our issues areas
  • Envision and implement online (and in-person, once safe to do so) educational events to engage our supporters in our veganism work such as cooking demos.
  • Travel to do cooking demos on behalf of the organization, including details about our issues areas.

Miscellaneous

F.E.P. is a small non-profit environment. As such, staff sometimes pivot from primary roles and duties to collectively advance timely projects and events. These pivots may include:

  • Assisting with F.E.P. campaigns as needed
  • Assisting with video editing and virtual events, as needed.

 Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • At least two years’ work experience, preferably at a nonprofit.
  • Loves to cook, create, and communicate recipes.
  • Demonstrated experience creating cooking/recipe content in video and written/photo formats.
  • Awareness and understanding of social media trends around recipes and veganism.
  • Understanding of and commitment to F.E.P.’s mission and values regarding human and non-human animals.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Strong photo and video editing skills (using Canva, Photoshop, YouTube Studio, and/or other programs).
  • Ability to quickly learn technology platforms as needed for video and graphic design, project management, communication and file management (including Google Suite, MS Office, Basecamp, Dropbox).
  • Self-motivated and capable of working and meeting deadlines independently but can also thrive in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Highly organized with excellent time-management skills, strong attention to detail, and timely follow-up.
  • Demonstrable  planning skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks based on understanding the organization’s short- and long-term needs.
  • Solicits feedback and self-adjusts based on feedback received.
  • Comfortable engaging with individuals and speaking to groups.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends, as needed (compensatory time off provided).
  • Reliable local transportation, including vehicle or transit, in order to acquire ingredients, equipment, and other items required for recipe filming in a timely manner, as well as the potential for future local in-person cooking demos or tabling.

 Additional “Nice-to-Haves”

  • Bilingual.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working in a remote environment.
  • Some experience working with WordPress Elementor (including familiarity with HTML coding).
  • Willingness to be featured in photo and video content on behalf of F.E.P.

 

Other Details

Job location: While our office is in San José, California, we are willing to consider a remote working arrangement for exceptional candidates. We are only able to hire U.S.-based candidates at this time. No relocation assistance is available.

Hours: Monday–Thursday (four days a week, 9 hours a day); some evening and weekend hours, as needed.

Starting annual salary: $63,600 USD.

Benefits: Health care reimbursement for medical, dental, and vision premiums; paid vacation time of 3 weeks per year and increasing accrual based on tenure with the organization; and a professional development budget.
