Organization: House Rabbit Society is a rabbit rescue and education organization.  This position will be working at House Rabbit Society headquarters, located in Richmond, CA, alongside a staff of four.

Supervisor: Executive Director; Program Manager for Membership Assistant role

Position: This full-time position’s roles break down approximately:

25% Volunteer Coordinator
25% Hop Shop Manager
25% Membership Assistant
25% Customer Service


25% Volunteer Coordinator

  • Develop and carry out strategies to recruit volunteers through multiple channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn Volunteer Marketplace, Nextdoor, VolunteerMatch, our eNewsletter, pre-vet college student groups, fliers, etc
  • Communicate with and coordinate current and potential volunteers by email, phone, and in person, and manage accompanying data entry needs in Volgistics
  • Build and develop a team of committed volunteers to help with House Rabbit Society’s program needs such as customer service, rabbit adoptions, rabbit daily care, rabbit grooming, bagging hay, spay/neuter clinic assistance, veterinary assistance, administrative assistance, ringing up shop customers, staffing special events
  • Conduct volunteer orientation and trainings
  • Review and update volunteer job descriptions and and volunteer application materials and guidelines. Solicit input and volunteer needs from staff, develop requests for help from volunteers, and develop new volunteer roles
  • Interface between staff members and volunteers

25% Hop Shop Manager

  • Manage inventory in Square POS for on-site and online store, and monitor product expiration dates
  • Place orders with vendors, ensuring shop is well-stocked with items that are safe for rabbits and attractive to rabbit guardians
  • Receive orders
  • Determine and check pricing based on comps and formulas
  • Restock, and organize storage and retail displays
  • Run monthly reporting on sales and best-selling items
  • Create promotions and coordinate with Program Manager on promotions to highlight in eNewsletter and social media
  • Manage online orders, including preparation and shipment of domestic and international orders

25% Membership Assistant

  • Update member records and donation records in eTapestry, our membership CRM
  • Enter donation data from paper donation records into eTapestry
  • Customize, print, and mail thank you letters and membership cards to our members
  • Correspond with members via phone, email, and in person to respond to questions and inquiries, update records, and build relationships with the organization
  • Update recurring payment information
  • Other related membership tasks, as needed

25% Customer Service

  • With co-workers and volunteers, provide customer service, including:
  • Open the door and greet visitors, give tours of facility
  • Answer phone calls and respond to voicemail messages
  • Educate people about rabbits and provide handouts
  • Counsel rabbit adopters and process adoption paperwork
  • Ring up customers in the Hop Shop
  • Check boarders in/out
  • Groom rabbits


  • Passionate about working for and with rabbits, and committed to House Rabbit Society’s mission (rabbit.org/about-us)
  • Education: Associate or higher degree
  • Experience: Previous experience with either volunteer coordination or retail management or membership/development administration.  Experience with eTapestry (or similar development CRM), Volgistics, or Square POS software a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Able to communicate well, with good interpersonal skills. Willingness to be helpful to members, the public, volunteers, and co-workers at all times, and provide good customer service
  • Able to understand and execute detailed instructions, learn and process new information quickly, meet time sensitive demands, and juggle multiple assignments smoothly and professionally, with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to work as a team, work well with people in a diverse workplace environment, and also work independently

Physical Demands:

  • Able to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, iPad, and other devices
  • Ability to hear, answer, and respond to telephone calls and quickly stand to open the door for visitors
  • Able to stand or sit for extended periods, be positioned in front of a computer monitor for extended periods, and able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Able to work at a steady pace and complete tasks on schedule
  • Able to be exposed to allergens, including rabbits and grasses/hay

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

8 hour shifts, 5 days a week, regular workweek schedule is negotiable.
Once or twice a month, a couple hours on a weekend day will be needed for new volunteer training.

Salary & Benefits:

  • $38,000-$40,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications
