Job Overview:

At Jameson Humane, we continue to enhance our animal care operations to support our resident animals in enjoying their best lives.  Jameson Humane is looking for a motivated team member who is passionate about animal care, healing and development!   As part of the Animal Care team, you will be responsible for working with the team to mutually establish gold standard care, welfare, mental and physical development programs for resident animals.

 

Responsibilities Include:

Leadership, Operational Planning

• Lead and foster effective teamwork with team, volunteers and management.
• Identify, assess, and inform the VP Operations of internal and external issues that affect the animals and/or ranch area.
• Develop animal plans with the team which incorporate goals, objectives and metrics that work towards the strategic direction of the organization.
• Oversee Animal medical care and development, working closely with the team.
• Ensure proper medical supplies are up to date and team is trained on medical aid.
• Establish and maintain a documented daily enrichment schedule including development, turnouts, etc.
• Oversee efficient and effective day-to-day maintenance of the animals and ranch area which includes but is not limited to animal care, animal enrichment, animal development, diet monitoring, maintaining animal diet schedules, veterinary appointments, maintaining health treatment records in Shelter Manager and tracking documents, ordering of food and supplies, maintaining cleanliness, organization, inventory, etc.
• Daily animal feeding/watering/nurturing, animal health care, cleaning duties.
• Work with the team to establish a mutually agreed upon barn protocol.
• Review all products being used, ingredients, etc., aligned with the organizations commitment to gold standard health and the environment.
• Maintain grooming kits, establish a documented grooming schedule of all animals and make sure sanitizing protocol is followed.
• Maintain Fly abatement.
• Continue education and cross training of team & volunteers on all animal care, handling, safety.

Financial Planning And Management

Work with VP of Operations to prepare a comprehensive budget

• Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the VP of Operations
• Maintain budget, expenses for the animal ranch programs

Program Planning and Management

Work with the VP of Operations and Volunteer Manager to plan and execute the animal volunteer program, train and develop volunteers.

Skills and Qualifications

• Committed to Jameson Humane’s Mission
• Previous animal management & care experience – horses, farmed animals, companion animals – required
• Good animal behavior and observation skills
• The Ranch is a plant-based food site and as such, no animal products are allowed on the property
• Passionate about working for and with all animals
• Keen interest in the animal welfare/rights movement is encouraged
• Strong communication and listening skills
• Able to follow detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
• Able to learn and process new information quickly
• Team player and self-motivator
• Reliable and dependable
• Able to lift 40-50 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor
• Work well with a variety of people including Staff, Volunteers and Visitors
• Willing to work on weekend/holidays/varying shift times
• Farm equipment knowledge & ability to drive tractors and trailers
• Working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record (subject to verification)

 

Working Conditions:  

Work is physical and performed primarily outdoors, with some duties performed in an office. Outdoor duties will involve working in all weather conditions, including cold/wet weather (average low is 35F) and hot summers (average high is 95-100F). Office working environment will be artificial light, equipment used includes standard office equipment i.e. computer, printer, telephone and copy machine. There are animals at Jameson Humane so therefore there is occasional exposure to sick or injured animals and possible exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
