The Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) represents 195 company members including many of the nation’s leading brands. Our mission is to build a solid foundation for the plant-based foods industry to scale and thrive.

The Senior Communications Manager will execute on PBFA’s communications strategy, including our digital strategy & social media, internal & external communications, and all web content.  This position will be responsible for telling the PBFA story through messaging, social media, and related communications activities.

Job Responsibilities


Internal Communications Support

  • With key internal stakeholders and consultants, set and refine PBFA’s communications plan and priorities
  • Plan and maintain PBFA’s content/communications calendar
  • Serve as liaison between PBFA departments, ensuring programming and upcoming inflection points are effectively integrated into the communications plan
  • Coordinating with all team members to develop content related to their events and projects to ensure timely and relevant communications
  • Effectively manage communications deliveries and associated timelines
  • Engage with the team and ensure consistency on internal messaging

PBFA Brand Maintenance

  • Maintain and propose updates for style guides across all PBFA platforms
  • Ensure consistent usage of PBFA messaging in all external communications

Website Content

  • Oversee website refresh, ensuring that it reflects our vision, mission, and values, and its adherence with the style guidelines
  • Coordinate with PBFA departments/consultants/advisors/stakeholders to plan and execute thought leadership related toPBFA programming, including but not limited to advocacy, consumer access, certification, membership, industry inflection points, and PBFA updates
  • Maintain and update PBFA website including, In the News, Events, program area content, and other website sections as needed

External Communications

  • Create content highlighting PBFA’s work and impact to target audiences
  • Create messaging for media to highlight our policy work
  • Oversee and facilitate all components required for the execution of the monthly newsletter
  • Work with PBFA departments to coordinate/execute email communications to PBFA audiences
  • Support with creation of various marketing materials as needed- ex. PBFA year in review, resources, etc.

Social Media

  • Responsible for social media content creation and execution of PBFA’s social media strategy
  • Work with key internal stakeholders and consultants to develop new ideas to improve PBFA’s reach and the impact of PBFA via social/digital channels
  • Monitor analytics to assess engagement, audiences, and impact
  • Oversee paid social media spends to boost engagement/social strategy as needed

  • Aligned with PBFA’s mission to build a strong foundation for the plant-based foods industry, and ready to enthusiastically share that mission with others
  • Professional and confident while communicating with all levels of leadership in a business setting
  • Expert with social media platforms (specifically LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) and adept at creating targeted communication for business development and marketing purposes
  • Responsible, and self-driven. Able to thrive in a highly independent environment, and ready to be a contributing member of a small but passionate and quickly evolving team

Experience, and Skills

  • Minimum 7 years of communications & digital content development experience
  • Excellent oral, written, and editing skills with a proven ability to craft a consistent and compelling narrative through all forms of communications
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong attention to detail; uses a lens of accuracy and PBFA’s voice with our target audiences
  • Highly organized with excellent time-management skills
  • Able to maintain/oversee organization/execution of multi-department/multi-stakeholder communications campaigns
  • Able to lead in strategic thinking and execute on tasks required for this role
  • Strong interpersonal communication, active listening, and political acumen skills
  • Excellent digital and social media strategy and execution skills
  • Proven experience developing and executing inclusive and/or niche messaging
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and solving skills
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Successful remote workplace experience a plus
