Job Title: Sous Chef (Plant-Based, Health-Focused Restaurant soul food kitchen)


Job Summary:

As a Sous Chef at our plant-based, health-focused restaurant, you will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef in managing all aspects of the kitchen operations. You will play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, nutritious, and flavorful plant-based dishes that align with our restaurant’s health-focused concept. Collaboration, creativity, and a passion for plant-based cuisine are key attributes for success in this role.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assisting the Head Chef: Collaborate closely with the Head Chef to develop menus, create recipes, and plan daily specials that reflect the restaurant’s plant-based and health-focused concept. Assist in managing all aspects of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.

2. Food Preparation and Cooking: Oversee and participate in food preparation, ensuring that all ingredients are fresh, high-quality, and properly sourced. Utilize various cooking techniques to create delicious, healthy plant-based dishes that meet our customers’ dietary needs and preferences.

3. Menu Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of the restaurant’s menu, incorporating innovative plant-based dishes that reflect current food trends and customer demands. Continuously explore new ingredients, flavors, and cooking techniques to provide a diverse and exciting dining experience.

4. Quality Control: Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation. Ensure that all dishes leaving the kitchen meet the restaurant’s established standards and reflect the brand’s commitment to health and wellness.

5. Kitchen Operations: Assist in managing kitchen operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and monitoring food costs. Monitor and maintain proper food safety and sanitation practices, adhering to local health regulations and internal policies.

6. Staff Training and Development: Support the Head Chef in training and mentoring kitchen staff, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to execute recipes and maintain consistency. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages growth and creativity.

7. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service and efficient communication between the kitchen and dining area. Respond promptly to customer feedback and special requests, adapting to individual dietary needs and restrictions.


Qualifications and Skills:

– Culinary degree or equivalent experience in a professional kitchen.

– Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role, preferably in a plant-based or health-focused restaurant.

– Extensive knowledge of plant-based ingredients, cooking techniques, and flavor profiles.

– Strong understanding of nutrition and dietary preferences, with the ability to create balanced and nutritious menus.

– Proficiency in menu development, recipe creation, and food costing.

– Exceptional culinary and cooking skills, with the ability to lead by example.

– Excellent organizational and time management abilities.

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

– Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

– Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
