Overview

Fundraising and Development Manager, We Animals Media

We Animals Media exists to increase the visibility of hidden animals worldwide through compelling photography and filmmaking. Thousands of our photographs and videos are accessed globally through the We Animals Archive, providing visual content that is global, relevant, and free.

We Animals Media is a growing organization. Over the coming years we are focusing on increasing the visibility of hidden animals by making this content more widely available by expanding our network of talented photographers and videographers, and improving the way our images are accessed via the We Animals Archive.

Established as a non-profit in Canada in 2018, We Animals Media builds on the long career of photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur, who funded this work through the donations of a strong grassroots following  (then as ‘We Animals’), and recently larger investments have allowed us to expand into We Animals Media, a global agency.

We are now looking for a fundraising and development generalist to expand our fundraising efforts and increase our organizational sustainability. This function will help to increase donor retention and long-term value, conduct effective outreach in support of our field work and our near-term overarching goal to build a world-class digital archive, and will work with the Executive Director and Director of Operations to pursue new grant opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an annual fundraising plan to increase WAM’s annual revenue by a stretch target of 20%
Maintain our CRM database and gift processing workflow
  • Identify and cultivate long-term relationships with prospective donors, small and major gifts, via campaigns and other outreach initiatives
  • Draft fundraising and development communications and other related materials in collaboration with the Communications team
  • Identify grants and other funding opportunities
Participate in the development of granting applications, working in collaboration with the Director of Operations and Executive Director
  • Working alongside the Executive Director to cultivate and maintain healthy relationships with existing donors
Proactively set up meetings between the Executive Director and current and prospective donors
  • Manage fundraising and development communications calendar, keeping our donors up to date with our activities
Provide reports and data analyses of fundraising activities

Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising in a nonprofit organization
Experience managing a CRM database (we use Kindful), managing records, and data analysis
Experience creating email and social media campaigns, creating email templates
Experience in securing grants from foundations, including crafting and presenting funding proposals.
A track record of cultivating relationships with potential and existing donors
Strong verbal and written English communication skills

Personal skills:

Comfortable working on a small but growing, tight-knit team (we’re fun and lighthearted to compensate for the gravity of what we cover)
Demonstrated ability to effectively work remotely
Self-motivated and comfortable working in your role independently, and in collaboration with the Communications team
Must have excellent interpersonal skills
Personally motivated by the mission and work of We Animals Media
Willing to travel once or twice per year for conferences and team retreats
Willingness to occasionally jump in and provide support on tasks outside the scope of your role when needed

Job Details:

Term of employment: part-time, remote
Reports to: Director of Operations
Salary: $62,000 CAD, pro rated to part-time schedule
Benefits: while we’re still too small to offer health coverage, we do provide an annual professional development stipend
Must provide your own laptop
Open to residents of Canada and the U.S. Candidates based in Canada will be preferred.

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to info@weanimals.org with “Fundraising and Development Manager” in the subject line. Deadline to apply is February 9, 2020.
